The Challenge
The Office of the Child and Youth Advocate (OCYA) needed a modern, accessible website to better serve Alberta’s young people, caregivers, and service providers. The client sought to ensure accessibility standards, improve navigation, and enhance content management, as their current site from 2014 had limitations due to hard-coded JavaScript.
The Approach
We began by engaging stakeholders to identify key pain points, collaborating with OCYA’s communications team to develop a streamlined sitemap. The new design focused on WCAG 2.1 AA compliance, enhancing accessibility and ease of use. We built the site on WordPress with a custom page builder, enabling staff to manage content easily. The design is mobile-responsive, supports embedded media, and integrates social media. We also implemented security enhancements and analytics tracking for ongoing performance insights.
